When a structured item catches your eye most times it is the shoulder that makes it pop. So when I came across a vintage, navy blue, single button Yves Saint Laurent jacket the puffed shoulder really stood out.
It took me a while to ease it out of the closet and on to the streets, not just because of the shoulder but also because of its length-probably worn at a time when women wore more skirts than trousers hence accentuating the waist. Nevertheless, I wore it the other night with black pants from Goldsign, a lace Erdem shirt and my suede Prada shoes. Coincidentally I had so many people ask where it is from. My response was “really? Is it not too 80s?” One person actually said, “No! it’s so now!” I guess I’ll be bringing it out more often, now that the uncertainty of its acceptance has faded.
