Eisa Balenciaga

We love historic tales, so when we met this Balenciaga dress we couldn’t help but listen to Carmen Haid, of Atelier-Mayer tell the story.

The dress is labelled Eisa. It so transpires that in Spain Cristobal Balenciaga designed under his mother’s name, Eisa, for the Spanish aristocracy in Madrid, Barcelona and San Sebastián.

Sadly though, the Spanish Civil War forced the closure of his Spanish operation which he moved to Paris, under the name of Cristobal Balenciaga, joining the likes of Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli. His first catwalk show, under the Balenciaga name, took place in 1937 at his Avenue George V atelier. So, really this dress is a collector’s item and a piece of fashion treasure.
